Kathleen O'Heron

CEO & Founder, Jynx Productions, LLC

Content creators are everywhere. The term "Media" is ubiquitous. Look on any website and you’ll see streaming video. Increasingly, companies and brands are told they need to include video in their marketing strategy, but who do they choose to produce their media? How will their content stand out? How will they use video to engage their customers?

Our presenter has always loved to see the look on people's faces when they hear about what her company does. Essentially, Jynx Productions is a video production company that makes videos people want to watch. Most of its productions are for shows on European TV networks that are akin to 60 Minutes.

So Jynx's stories routinely enjoy an extremely wide reach with millions of views. Watching the ratings, it's clear to see people tune in when the segments air. Kathleen attributes this connection with their audience to two simple, yet crucial elements in storytelling:  (1) Jynx knows how to find the subject matter that people are interested in, and (2) with years of storytelling experience under their belts, they also know how to craft a compelling story.

It's easy for filmmakers to get bogged down in the latest camera gear, the newest lens, the coolest editing effects. it's an Instagram world after all. But asking the right questions and finding the best way to connect the dots to form a compelling narrative, well, for some that's the hard part.  For Jynx, it's what they do.

So, armed with that information and as a business owner looking for longevity in a fickle industry, Kathleen's goal for this year is to broaden Jynx's customer base by finding a way to take their strongest skill set, emotive storytelling, and offer up their existing bouquet of services to the corporate world. She is looking for guidance and suggestions to help propel Jynx's efforts forward, taking the business on its next adventure.

The challenge question for Women Standing Together is:

  • What are the strategies Jynx should employ to attract the "right fit" corporate partners who are looking beyond the corporate video and want to connect with their customers on an emotional level through the types of stories Jynx knows how to tell?

Kathleen O'Heron has never known how to answer the question, "So, what do you do?" The answer seems as intricate and delicate as a spider's web. She is a business owner, having built a media house from the ground up -- taking it from a mom and pop shop above a garage with one client to a full-service production company with an array of production partners across several industry sectors.

She is also a true entrepreneur, with an approach that mixes her business acumen with a creative mindset that allows her to keep looking outside the box for any given solution. Kathleen is a seasoned broadcast professional with years of experience in news. In her previous "corporate" life at a multi-billion dollar media company, she managed a global team of broadcast technicians.

Our presenter is an international spirit. Having lived outside and inside the US in equal measure, her education and career have been informed by the broad lens of an international perspective. Her company, Jynx Productions, provides services to an international group of clients in several languages. Kathleen is also a documentary film editor who loves to spend a good chunk of time in a dark room, sifting through hours of footage, finding the gold dust in the ordinary.

She is also a mentor for young women who have an interest in beating the odds to hone a career in the production world. Kathleen is proud to have built a business here in Maine that brings talented production professionals to our state and adds revenue with an income stream that comes from beyond our borders. Last but not least, our presenter is a mother who is raising three beautiful kids while building a vibrant business.
