Kathleen O'Heron -- Fear

You don’t need to be in danger to feel fear.

We get scared because of what we imagine could happen. We could be the most fearful creatures on the planet because of our ability to learn, think, and create fear in our minds. But this natural evolutionary response to danger can turn into chronic anxiety, and become debilitating.

The most common reaction in a fear situation is the attitude of “I can’t!”  This is the fear of failure that stops you from taking action. It is experienced physically, starting in the pit of your stomach. Your mouth and throat go dry, your heart starts pounding. Sometimes your breathing becomes shallow, and your stomach churns. Fear is natural.  And universal. But -- fear can be minimized.  It can be overcome.

Kathleen O’Heron will be speaking about her own experience with fear, specifically her fear of speaking in public.  She will explore the life experiences that led to her feeling utterly afraid of speaking in front of people she doesn’t know.  And she will walk us through the journey that she is still on, moving towards a place where fear will not be her biggest obstacle to achieving her goals.

Kathleen O'Heron has never known how to answer the question, "So, what do you do?" The answer seems as intricate and delicate as a spider's web. She is a business owner, having built a media house from the ground up -- taking it from a mom and pop shop above a garage with one client to a full-service production company with an array of production partners across several industry sectors.

She is also a true entrepreneur, with an approach that mixes her business acumen with a creative mindset that allows her to keep looking outside the box for any given solution. Kathleen is a seasoned broadcast professional with years of experience in news. In her previous "corporate" life at a multi-billion dollar media company, she managed a global team of broadcast technicians.

Our presenter is an international spirit. Having lived outside and inside the US in equal measure, her education and career have been informed by the broad lens of an international perspective. Her company, Jynx Productions, provides services to an international group of clients in several languages. Kathleen is also a documentary film editor who loves to spend a good chunk of time in a dark room, sifting through hours of footage, finding the gold dust in the ordinary.

She is also a mentor for young women who have an interest in beating the odds to hone a career in the production world. Kathleen is proud to have built a business here in Maine that brings talented production professionals to our state and adds revenue with an income stream that comes from beyond our borders. Last but not least, our presenter is a mother who is raising three beautiful kids while building a vibrant business.
